About the data

This directory is assembled from public sources, deduplicated and normalised. Nothing here is a scraped copy of a single site — the value is in the merge. Here is exactly how it is built, and where it is imperfect.

Sources

SourceWhat it contributes
Champagne.fr producer directoryGeocoded producer records: address, village, region, contact details, visiting activities, languages, environmental certifications, editorial description.
Maisons de ChampagneHouse dossiers for the major maisons: foundation date, company profile, vineyard estate, staff, cuvée lists.
Producers' own websitesCuvée-level detail: product names, styles, dosage, ageing and descriptions, discovered from each producer's own range pages.

How records are merged

Each source is normalised to a common schema, then producers are matched on a normalised name key (accents stripped, “Champagne / Maison / Domaine” prefixes removed, punctuation ignored). Where a producer appears in more than one source, its record is enriched rather than duplicated, and the producer page shows a “verified across N sources” badge. Coordinates come from the geocoded directory records.

Current build: 882 producers, 2,103 cuvées, 808 with coordinates. 59 producers appear only in the cuvée dataset and therefore have no map pin.
